a good reminder.
“Shoot/make art for yourself, as often as you can. Don’t shoot/draw/create for any other reason (like to specifically make something for your portfolio) but rather shoot for the love of shooting and for making the work that excites you. Don’t worry if it’s good or right or what you should be doing, just make some damn art.”
This is from a photography standpoint, but it was just the reminder I needed. All the drawing and illustrations I’ve done for the last 2 1/2 years have been for assignments or contracts.
After I read this, I picked a photograph off the internet and drew five designs inspired by this picture by Jenny Van Sommers. The designs flowed more quickly then they have in a long time!
